ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME
I am Georgia Williams, a painter, printmaker and occasional primary school teacher. My love for art was sparked at Mount Maunganui College way back in the 90’s. I went on to study visual art at RMIT in Melbourne. From there I moved to Auckland to gain a Diploma of Computer Graphics from Media Design School and then a Bachelor of Art and Design from AUT. I worked in Auckland for many years in the magazine publishing industry as a graphic designer, illustrator and art director. After moving back to Mount Maunganui in 2014 with my family I trained to become a primary school teacher. I now work as a relief teacher to fit in around my creative endeavours.

MY WORK

My painting style is generally controlled and realistic. I like to capture a still, peaceful moment, whether painting a portrait or objects. I also dabble in life drawing and mixed media. My style and subject matter is constantly evolving and I'm always thinking about my next painting. My hope is that viewers feel a sense of knowing when seeing my work, either a feeling of nostalgia for the coffee pot on the bench or amusement at the expression on a face.

In 2022 I was lucky to receive ‘Creatives in Schools’ funding from the Ministry of Education to undertake a creative project at Omanu Primary School. The project was to facilitate the pupils to illustrate seven local pakiwaitara and turn them into physical and online books for the community to enjoy, and for teachers to use as a resource. The project was very successful.

I am always open to fine art/illustration commissions or exhibition opportunities/collaborations.
